These lessons will introduce pupils to learning a wide range of poetic devices such as senses adjectives, verbs, adverbs figurative language, rhythm rhyme, repetition, rhetorical questions and hyperboles.
They shall learn about rhyming schemes and analyse the lyrics to the song food glorious food.

The first of the two lessons gives pupils a short introduction to the book Holes it encourages students to make predictions about the book and assesses their comprehension of the first two chapters through a fun interactive quiz. Pupils will then learn to use their comprehension and analysis skills to interpret what a character might be like and how they might look. By the end of the lesson pupil’s will have created a character profile for the main character using the text to make assumptions about the character.
The second of the two lessons will teach pupils how to use P.E.E to structure their arguments in their writing. This lesson also encourages pupils to further use their analysis skills to interpret what a character might be like through a fun Sherlock Holmes themed activity. After pupils will analyse a piece of text to identify information about the characters and write arguments based on what they have interpreted from the book.
